Celebrating LRSN's Investing in Volunteers achievement

On Thursday 29th June LRSN celebrated it’s achievement of attaining the “Investing in Volunteers” standard, with it’s volunteers, staff, and patrons.

Brown and Co offered their marquee, used the previous night for their Rural Quiz, as a home for event, with Uncle Henry’s kindly offering the venue for both events. It was an unseasonal evening, cold and wet, so unfair after all the beautiful weather we have experienced over the last few weeks, but luckily a gas blower heater was found and helped to keep everyone warm throughout the evening, thank you Steve Ward!

Over 40 LRSN volunteers and partners enjoyed an evening of socialising, good food, courtesy of Uncle Henry’s, and the high quality speakers Aarun Naik, a Nuffield Scholar who spoke about the schemes adopted by different countries around the world to help farmers understand mental health issues and how to prevent them and Sophie Wells, Paralympian Dressage rider who entertained everyone with stories of her quest to reach her potential in such a competitive sport, she was truly uplifting; both were inspirational and perhaps more importantly, lovely people.

It was a fabulous event with a party atmosphere in a beautifully decorated marquee, and well received by those who attended. The charity doesn’t have many opportunities for a “good, old get together” so this was a great opportunity for the volunteers to meet fellow volunteers and their partners and  a fitting way to thank them for all their dedication and support for the charity.

The Investing in Volunteers standard is a UK quality standard for good practise in volunteer management and our work towards the standard was supported by the Waynflete Charitable Trust, for which we are very grateful for. LRSN is a volunteer led organisation so we felt it was important to recognise the value of our volunteers and the great work that they do. This party was a “thank you” to our volunteers and recognises their importance and value in every single aspect of our LRSN service.
