With inches of rain falling over the autumn and winter, followed by the February storms, many farmers are still facing waterlogged and flooded fields. Watercourses have burst their banks and flood alleviation schemes implemented, meaning many thousands of acres of Lincolnshire farmland were under water and are still too wet to work. Last year's crops are in some cases still to be harvested, with maize, potatoes, field vegetables and sugar beet badly affected by waterlogged soils.
