LRSN welcomes Dr Jude McCann to FCN
LRSN today (24 October) welcomed the appointment of Dr Jude McCann as the new Chief Executive of The Farming Community Network (FCN).
He will join FCN in January following the retirement of Charles Smith who has been the Christian farming charity's Chief Executive for eight years. LRSN is proud to work with FCN and recently collaborated with FCN and the National Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs to develop and deliver the Rural + workshops to YFC clubs in Lincolnshire. You can read our tribute to Charles here.
Chairman of Lincolnshire Rural Support Network, Meryl Ward, said: “Jude’s role as chief executive of Rural Support in Northern Ireland and his Nuffield Farming Scholarship on building farmers’ resilience in a changing world will provide FCN with a renewed perspective on mental health and wellbeing issues in our industry.
"At a time when farmers and their families are facing unprecedented change, all the farming support groups must work together to provide a network of support and advice to help them meet these challenges. Jude’s experience and skills will help to develop the Farming Community Network’s reach and its range of services, but I am sure he will also continue to provide valuable insight for partner organisations on how farming and rural communities can build resilience in times of great change."
Dr McCann is currently the Chief Executive of Rural Support, Northern Ireland's farming support charity; he comes from an Ulster farming family and has a PhD which examined the social impacts of subsidy reforms in New Zealand. He recently completed a Nuffield Farming Scholarship, in which he examined how farm support organisations can help secure farmers’ resilience in a changing world.
